The newborn just left the mother’s body, just like the newly unearthed seedlings, is very delicate and needs to adapt to the external environment, especially within 7 days after birth. Therefore, to arrange a suitable living environment for the newborn is the first important problem to be solved.
The mother and baby should share the same room.
The mother and the baby should be in the same room, so that the mother can see and take care of the baby at any time, and provide favorable conditions for breastfeeding on demand. If possible, the newborn’s bedroom should be arranged in a room facing south as far as possible, because such a room is sunny, so the baby can directly bask in the sun by opening the window, absorb the ultraviolet rays in the sun, which plays a role in preventing vitamin D-deficient rickets. The room light of the newborn should be bright, so as to observe the changes of the newborn, such as whether there is jaundice, whether there is skin infection and so on. It can also make the newborn quickly distinguish the difference between day and night, which plays a certain role in the regular sleep of the newborn.
Clean environment and moderate temperature
The comfortable and clean of the newborn’s bedroom is very important. It can not only reduce illness, but also promote growth and development. The air in the room of the newborn must be fresh. According to the different seasons, the window should be opened 1-2 times a day to keep the indoor air fresh and odorless. However, it should be avoided that the wind blows directly to the newborn.
Due to the poor thermoregulation of the newborn, it is necessary to keep the environment at a suitable temperature and humidity to ensure the normal temperature of the newborn. Generally, the indoor temperature of full-term newborns is between 18 ℃ – 22 ℃, and that of premature infants should be between 22 ℃ – 26 ℃, and the humidity should be kept between 60% – 70%. In order to maintain a certain humidity, you can put a basin of water in the room or burn a pot of water on the stove, so that the distributed steam can maintain the indoor humidity.
Special attention should be paid to environmental health in the bedroom of the newborn. When cleaning, wet cleaning should be used, such as wiping the furniture with a wet cloth, cleaning the floor with a semi-wet mop, or watering the floor before cleaning. The best way to clean the bed is to take down the bedsheet and shake it gently in the balcony or toilet to clean it, so as to avoid floating the dust and debris on the bed in the air, stimulating the mouth, nasopharynx mucosa and skin of the newborn and causing discomfort. This is also one of the ways to spread bacteria, viruses and parasitic eggs.
Newborn rooms should be as few people as possible, and avoid people coming and going, so as to avoid cross-infection.
Indoor layout precautions
As far as possible, the bedroom of the newborn should be equipped with less furniture to facilitate the observation and care of the newborn, as well as the indoor cleaning. The bed of the newborn should be close to the mother’s bed as much as possible. The height of the bed of the newborn should make it convenient for the newborn to see the mother’s face when lying on the bed, and the mother can also easily see the activity of the newborn, so as to enhance the eye communication between the mother and the baby. The mother can easily and often have skin contact with the baby.
Paste some colorful pictures on the walls around the room, preferably some lively and lovely children’s figure paintings and small animal paintings, which can give a good visual stimulation to the newborn. A recorder or video recorder can be placed in the room, often playing some soft and pleasant music that can promote the hearing development of the newborn. On the top of the newborn bed, about 15-20cm high, hang some colorful toys that can make a sound. When the newborn is awake, gently shake the toys, he will involuntarily turn his eyes to see with the shaking of the toys, which not only trains the vision but also the hearing, and has a certain positive effect on the development of the brain potential of the newborn.
