4 Misunderstandings of Baby’s Sleep

4 Misunderstandings of Baby’s Sleep

For the baby sleeping, many parents will have some wrong ideas: The baby can sleep better in your arms. The baby can grow up healthily by sleeping more. Needless to emphasize baby’s sleeping habits. The baby sleeps well when snoring.

1. No matter when the baby falls asleep, as long as the total amount of sleep is enough.

Adequate sleep time is critical for the growth and development of babies, because during sleep, the endocrine system releases three times more growth hormones than usual. However, the quality of the baby’s sleep is also important. The proportion of deep sleep and shallow sleep varies with the time of falling asleep. The later you fall asleep, the more shallow sleep and the less deep sleep. The growth hormone is secreted mainly during deep sleep. And shallow sleep is more closely related to the development of the baby’s memory. So try to let your baby sleep early.

2. Sleeping in your arms gives your baby a sense of security and allows him to fall asleep faster.

Sleeping in your arms can really give your baby a sense of security, but it’s also easy for your baby to become dependent. When the baby is older, it can be difficult for us to change. This dependence will also prolong the baby’s sleeping time and is easy to cause difficulty in falling asleep.

Moreover, when the baby wakes up at night, it’s hard for him to fall asleep again if his parents can’t give him comfort in time. This will have a negative impact on developing the habit of sleeping independently. It is recommended that you start to help the baby develop the ability to fall asleep independently in the crib gradually from now on.

3. If the baby’s sleep time is not up to the standard, it will affect growth and development.

In fact, although babies of every age group have their specific sleep needs, there are also individual differences among babies, for example, the temperament type of babies may determine how much sleep they need. In principle, as long as the baby’s mental state, appetite, digestion, weight growth is normal, it’s no problem. But if they deviate too much, for example, newborns need to sleep 16 to 18 hours a day. If your baby only sleeps 12 hours, you may need to consult a doctor for growth and development monitoring.

4. When the baby is young, you don’t have to emphasize his sleeping habits. Adjust it before entering kindergarten is enough.

In fact, 0-1 years old is the key period for the formation of the baby’s sleep behavior. The 24-hour circadian rhythm is generally established within 1 year old. But many parents start to adjust their babies’ sleeping habits before they have to go to work and their babies have to go to kindergarten.

Once the baby’s sleep habits are formed, it’s a little difficult to correct them. Therefore, it is better to consciously cultivate a good sleeping habit when the baby is four or five months old.
