How to Care the Skin of Babies

How to Care the Skin of Babies

The key point of nursing neonatal skin is to bathe the baby regularly and keep the baby’s skin clean.

1. The skin of the newborn is a protective barrier to prevent infection. However, the skin of the newborn is very delicate and metabolizes quickly. It is easily stimulated by sweat, urine, milk and dust in the air and rots. Especially the wrinkles of the skin, such as the neck, armpit, groin, buttock, etc., are more prone to erosion or infection, then the bacteria will enter the body. Therefore, it is necessary to bathe newborns regularly to keep their skin clean and reduce the chance of infection.

2. The newborn’s skin is delicate, the cutaneous keratinization layer is thin, the skin lacks elasticity, and the ability to defend against external forces is poor. When subjected to slight external forces, the newborn’s skin will be damaged and easily infected. Therefore, neonatal clothing, footwear and socks should be appropriate. Long nails should be cut off with small scissors to avoid all possible factors that may damage the skin. After bathing, apply baby lotion to reduce surface friction.

3. Neonates have thin skin, abundant blood vessels, strong absorption and permeability. Therefore, do not use any ointment for newborns, especially those containing hormones. When must be used, it should be discontinued after remission and never be used for a long time. When bathing newborns, use infant soap or neutral soap with little irritation, don’t use soap or medicinal soap for adults.

4. The secretory function of sweat glands and sebaceous glands on the skin of newborns is strong. Sebum is easy to overflow and often found in the top of the head (front fontanel), eyebrows, nose bridge, the external auditory canal and the root of the back of the ear. If not cleaned frequently, it will form a thick scab with dust in the air and debris on the skin. Mothers should first apply vegetable oil on the scab when cleaning their babies. After soaking it softens, clean it with water. Don’t tear the scab off with hands in order to avoid damaging the skin.

Parenting tips

Neonatal sweat gland secretion is exuberant, when the temperature is high, it may cause a small red rash on the face, back and chest. At this time, we should pay attention to adjusting the temperature, increase and decrease clothes in time and often bathe, wash face for Babies. It will naturally improve and do not need special treatment.
