7 Characteristics of Baby’s Skin and Nursing Methods

7 Characteristics of Baby’s Skin and Nursing Methods

Understanding children’s psychology is the first step in educating children. Similarly, only by fully understanding the characteristics of the baby’s skin can parents better care for the baby’s skin. Here are 7 features of the baby’s skin and 7 kinds of nursing methods:

1. The baby’s skin is easy to absorb foreign substances.

For the same amount of chemicals in toiletries, the baby’s skin absorbs more than the adult’s

Because the baby’s skin is easy to absorb foreign substances, the baby’s skin will absorb more chemicals in the same amount of cleaning products than adults. At the same time, the reaction to allergic substances or toxic substances is much stronger. Therefore, to protect the baby’s skin, the first step for the mother is to choose the right cleaning products.

What you should do:

1) Choose baby specific toiletries;

2) Try not to replace with adult toiletries;

3) Pay attention to the dosage of each use.

2. The baby’s skin is easily damaged by friction.

Infant skin is only one tenth of the thickness of adult skin, the epidermis is a single layer of cells, while the adult is a multi-layer of cells; the collagen fibers in the dermis are less and lack of elasticity, which is not only easy to be infiltrated by foreign substances, but also easy to cause skin damage due to friction. Therefore, in order to avoid damage to the baby’s skin, the second thing the mother should do is to carefully select daily necessities that are often in contact with the baby’s skin.

What you should do:

1) Choose pure cotton, soft and easy to absorb water for close-fitting clothes and diapers;

2) Wash clothes and diapers with weak alkaline soap;

3) Apply delicate and high-quality baby talcum powder, and smear the wrinkles.

3. The baby’s skin has poor acid and alkali control ability.

Infant skin is not fully developed. Only a layer of natural acid protective film on the skin surface can protect the skin and prevent bacterial infection. Therefore, the mother must pay attention to protect the outer layer of the skin.

What you should do:

1) Don’t wash your baby’s skin with alkaline toiletries. Those toiletries containing soap, alcohol and irritant ingredients are very destructive to your baby’s skin protective film.

2) Choose pH neutral or baby specific toiletries.

4. The cuticle of the baby’s skin is not mature.

The cuticle of the baby’s skin is not mature, the dermis and fibrous tissue are thin, the skin is very tender and sensitive, and its ability of resisting dry environment is weak. Therefore, the mother needs to apply the lotion to the baby carefully.

What you should do:

1) Select and use baby special lotions without perfume and alcohol;

2) Adults who often contact with their babies should use the same baby lotion as their babies;

3) Do not change the brand at will.

5. The pigmentation of the baby’s skin is thin.

Baby skin melanin production is very little, so the pigment layer is relatively thin, it is easy to be burned by the ultraviolet light in the sun. So mothers may need to change their mind: the primary purpose of sunscreen is not just to improve looks, but to protect the skin, especially for babies.

What you should do:

1) Sunlight is good for the baby’s health and can prevent rickets, but too strong ultraviolet light will damage the natural tissue in the baby’s skin. Therefore, the baby should not be overexposed to the sun.

2) When the baby goes out, parents need to apply the special sunscreen for the baby.

6. Baby’s skin has weak thermoregulation.

The baby’s sweat glands and blood circulation system are still in the development stage, and the thermoregulation ability is far less than that of adults. Therefore, when the ambient temperature rises, the baby’s temperature will also rise. So, pay attention to the baby’s warm and cold is the homework that the mother often does.

What you should do:

1) Don’t wear too much for the baby, and the bedding should be moderately thickness, even in the cold winter, don’t pack too tightly;

2) If the baby is sweaty, wipe it with a soft dry towel in time.

7. Baby’s skin has poor resistance.

Infant’s own immune system is not perfect and its resistance is weak, so it is easy to have a skin allergy, such as erythema, rubella, papule, blister, even peeling, etc. Therefore, you should be alert to avoid skin irritation.

What you should do:

1) Try to use baby shower gel and baby soap without irritants;

2) The baby needs to take a bath every day. However, bath gel and baby soap are not needed every day. It is better to use them every other day or every three days.

3) The baby’s lacrimal gland is not mature enough to secrete enough tears to protect the eyes, so their eyes are vulnerable to external stimuli. The mother should choose the shampoo and body wash specially designed for the baby, and try to avoid using adult shampoo or two in one shampoo.
