Key Stage of Baby’s Growth and Development at 0-1 Year Old

Key Stage of Baby’s Growth and Development at 0-1 Year Old

What aspects should be paid attention to in the diet of babies aged 0-1 year old?

Babies aged 0-1 year old grow very fast, especially in the first half of the year. They can weigh more than twice as much as they were born. In addition to breastfeeding, supplementary food should be added gradually after 4 months, such as juice, vegetable juice, rice soup, egg yolk pie, fish paste, meat paste, biscuits, etc., which can lay a good foundation for weaning gradually in the future. At this time, the following principles should be followed when adding food: from thin to thick, from less to more, from one to many, and when the baby is healthy and his digestive function is normal. Specifically, there are the following points:

(1) Pure breastfeeding can last for 6 months. For bottle-feeding, iron-fortified milk powder should be used as far as possible to meet the needs of babies’ growth and development.

(2) Babies can be fed light juice after breastfeeding from 2 months. Vitamin C in juice can promote iron absorption in food. A small amount of puree can be added after 4-5 months.

(3) Starting from 4 to 5 months, rice flour or batter can be added (rice flour with iron fortification is better), 1/2 of egg yolk or 10-15 grams of fish paste can be added, too.

(4) After 7-8 months, porridge or noodles can be used instead of rice flour or batter, 25-30 grams each time, twice a day. When cooking, you can also add some minced meat, fish paste or animal blood. Pay attention to nutritional balance, collocate all kinds of food reasonably.

Is there any standard to measure the normal growth and development of babies?

Whether a baby is normal or not should be measured and analyzed from all aspects of “growth and development”. Strictly speaking, growth and development have two meanings. “Growth” refers to changes in quantities that can be measured, such as weight, height, head circumference, number of teeth, and so on. “Development” refers to the maturation of various systems and organs of the body, such as standing, walking, running, jumping, language development, and the development of mental and nervous activities. Growth and development are organic links and cannot be completely separated, so they are customarily linked together and called “growth and development”. Here are methods to calculate your baby’s height, weight and the number of teeth.

  • Weight

Standard Weight Formula for Babies aged 1-6 Months

Weight (kg) = Month Age (month) * 0.6 (kg/month) + Birth Weight (kg)

Standard Weight Formula for Babies aged 7-12 Months

Weight (kg) = Month Age (month) *0.5 (kg/month) +Birth Weight (kg)

  • Height
Month Increase
0-3 months 3-3.5 cm/month
4-6 months 2 cm/month
7-12 months 1-1.5 cm/month
  • The number of teeth

The number of teeth = Months Age – 6

The calculation method mentioned above is only an approximate average. Children of the same month and age sometimes differ greatly because of genetic factors, etc.

How to educate babies aged 0-1 year old?

Intelligence education for babies aged 0-1 year old can start from the following aspects:

  • Providing visual stimulation.

Parents can paste simple pictures around their baby’s cradle and change them frequently. You can also paint the fence of the small bed brightly, or buy some pure white or bright railings, decorate it with felts cut into small pieces or colored advertising paper, and then surround the small bed.

  • Providing auditory stimulation.

Baby’s hearing is very good, parents had better often chat with him or hum songs. Change of voice, tone and rhythm is a great way to transfer babies’ attention.

  • Providing dynamic stimulation.

Parents should constantly change their baby’s position on the bed and chair to encourage him to move his trunk, arms and legs.

  • Broaden our horizons.

Do not always let the baby stay in the cradle. Parents can use the baby trolley or strap to carry the baby around, which can broaden his horizon, give him more opportunities to contact people around and promote his mental, physical, interpersonal and emotional development.
