How to Clean and Sterilize Bottles for Babies

    by Emma W. August 22, 2019
    written by Emma W.

The bottle is related to the baby’s safety, so we must pay attention to keep clean and sterilization. Generally speaking, bottles should be cleaned after each use and sterilized at least once a day.

    Methods of Clean Baby Bottles

    • Bottle

After feeding, pour out the remaining milk first.

Rinse the bottle with water, pour in the cleaning liquid, and clean every corner with the bottle brush.

When cleaning, special attention should be paid to the bottleneck and screw, which should not be omitted.

    • Nipple

Turn the nipple over and wash it carefully with the nipple brush. The area near the nipple hole is thinner. Be careful not to let it split.

When washing, attention should be paid to cleaning the dirt in the nipple hole to ensure that the nipple outlet is kept free.

After washing the bottle, rinse it with water.

If milk stains coagulate on the nipples, soak them in hot water for a while and brush them off after they soften.

    • TIPS

It’s best to wash the bottle immediately after the baby has finished drinking milk. If you wash it after a while, there will be oil left on the bottle. The bottle will become sticky and difficult to clear, and the bottle will look foggy.

    Methods of Sterilize Baby Bottles

After cleaning the bottle, it should be sterilized again to ensure hygiene and safety. Generally, the sterilization methods of milk bottles are divided into boiling and steam.

    Boiling sterilization

    1. Prepare a stainless steel boiling pot filled with cold water. The depth of the water should be completely covered with milk bottles. Note: The pot must be special for sterilizing milk bottles. It’s better n+ot to mix it with other pots for cooking foods.

    2. Take the nipple and bottle cap off and put the bottle into the pot and boil it. Note: Plastic bottles are best placed in boiled water, while glass bottles can be placed in unboiled water.

    3. Put nipples and bottle caps into the water after the water is boiled for 5-10 minutes Cover the lid of the pot and cook for another 3-5 minutes before turning off the heat.

    4. After the water is cooled, take out the nipple and bottle cap with the bottle clip, put them upside down on clean utensils to dry, put them in a ventilated and clean place, and cover them with gauze or cap.

    Steam sterilization

At present, there are many electric steam cookers on the market. Mother can choose according to her own needs. The sterilization method should be operated according to the instructions. It should be noted that before using the steam pot to sterilize, we should thoroughly clean the bottles, nipples, bottle caps and other items.

    TIPS

When purchasing bottles, mothers should pay attention to the thermostable label on the bottles. If it’s not heat-resistant, it’s better to use a steam cooker to sterilize it.
