Crawling is the First Milestone of Growth

    written by Emma W.

It is undoubtedly a pleasure for the family that the baby can move himself. But now many parents attach great importance to the development of baby’s walking, running, jumping and other movements, but pay little attention to whether the baby can climb.

Experts in early childhood education believe that:

Climbing is an important activity of a baby, which is very helpful for his growth. First of all, climbing requires raising and turning the head left and right, which is beneficial to the exercise of neck muscles.

Secondly, climbing requires the strength of arms and wrists to support the whole upper body. Therefore, it is conducive to exercise the strength of arms and wrists, and it is good for graffiti with pens and eating with spoons in the future.

Thirdly, when crawling, it needs the joint participation of upper limbs and lower limbs, and the coordination of movements should be maintained, which is conducive to exercise the baby’s coordination ability and enhance the flexibility of movements, so that the baby can’t easily fall after learning to walk. Climbing is also beneficial to the development of the baby’s skeleton and nerve organs. When the baby’s movements are obviously uncoordinated, the baby’s health problems can be detected as early as possible. Therefore, family members should consciously exercise the baby crawling during the growth process.

When the baby is seven or eight months old, he should be boldly put on the ground, so that the baby first experience the feeling of active movement from point A to point B. This is a milestone in his life. Even if he only moved tens of centimeters on his first crawl, he climbed the boundary from the “plant kingdom” to the “animal kingdom”.

Some parents said that my baby is 3 years old, he has not climbed, then how to do? Experts say remedial measures are needed to make up for the crawling lesson. This is especially important for cesarean section babies and babies with postnatal asphyxia and brain damage (training for babies with brain damage must be conducted under the guidance of professionals).

    Crawling “Theory”

Every action has its own projection area in the brain. Crawling in different postures is the exercise of different parts of the brain.

Abdominal crawling (belly crawling close to the ground) – Exercise the function of the pons.

Kneeling crawling (kneeling on the ground) – Exercise the function of the mesencephalon.

Abdominal crawling is the basis of kneeling crawling and learning to walk and run and jump in the future.

The baby’s movements at the beginning of the climb are definitely not standard and not alternate. It doesn’t matter. Give him a chance to practice more. When he can crawl on his stomach, he has a “vehicle” to climb around. With the development of the baby’s brain, he will gradually overcome gravity and kneel up and can crawl on his knees. Then the baby has a faster “vehicle” that he can explore everywhere. Parents should let him climb, don’t stop him. Create more opportunities for your baby to crawl and exercise the corresponding parts of his brain, and your baby will become smarter.

    Crawling critical period

There is a folk saying: turning over in 3 months; sitting in 6 months, climbing in 8 months. That makes sense. When the baby is about 8 months old, his physiological condition has already possessed the ability to climb, so parents can teach the baby to learn to climb. Learning to climb too early is not good for your baby. If it’s too late, the baby can already walk and will lose interest in climbing. R
